Why you must stop posting "Engagement Bait" on your Facebook Business Page

What is engagement bait and why you shouldn’t do it!

Do you often use engagement bait to encourage your Facebook followers to react, comment, share, tag or vote on your post? Are you are doing this in order to bump your post to the top of people’s news feed? Then you will definitely want to reconsider.

Facebook is now getting a lot stricter.  If you do deliberately lay out “engagement bait” you are at risk of your post being demoted.

Facebook stated that it is:

“… implementing stricter demotions for Pages that systematically and repeatedly use engagement bait to artificially gain reach in News Feed…. Moving forward, we will continue to find ways to improve and scale our efforts to reduce engagement bait.*

Exemptions to the rule:

However, Facebook state, that some posts which encourage engagement will not be affected:

Posts that ask people for help, advice, or recommendations such as circulating a missing child report, raising money for a cause, or asking for travel tips, will not be adversely impacted by this update.
